I Know Why Babies Cry After Vaccination

It will soon be one year since I went to see Dr. Majhail to find out if he thought I was a good candidate for HSCT. I had the thumbs up from my Neurologist but what did Dr. Majhail think? Well, he also thought I was a good candidate for HSCT but there was testing that needed to be done at Cleveland Clinic and approvals that needed to be received from my insurance company. People ask me what I was doing during the pandemic of 2020. I say, “Destroying my faulty immune system.” That almost sounds sinister. I mean who would allow such a thing? Well, with the help of some fantastic people at the Cleveland Clinic we “rebooted” my immune system. Does that sound nicer? Call it a reboot but they really did kill off my faulty immune system.

Now my new immune system will be 6 months old on the 29th of this month. I am still wrapping my mind around being 46 years old with a 6 month old immune system. This week I have been in Cleveland for follow ups with all the super stars that made me feel like a rock star. Here is my Nurse Coordinator, Jennie and Dr. Majhail at my offical last visit. Yes it brings a tear to my eye but, I am grateful for the team that God put together to give me a rare opportunity to live a life without disease activity. NO MORE ACTIVE MS. I will always have MS because my immune system did quite a number on my nervous system. Multiple (many) Sclerosis (scars). My hope and continued prayer is that I can give my body exactly what it needs so it can protect me and also heal the damage that was done. I know that some damage will always be there because it is pretty bad. But I also know that my God can do the impossible. So we will see. Thank you Dr. Majhail and Jennie and Amy (not pictured).

Great Minds at work!

I was also vaccinated this week. Dr. Mossad was so excited to see me. He had met with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Majhail about this procedure being done for MS but to date, “I haven’t see anyone.” Of course I took that opportunity and looked up at him and said, “That is because I am the first person and I have the t-shirt to prove it.” He then insisted on taking a picture of the back of my shirt. He was willing to go ahead and do my vaccinations but, since it was only 12 days since my Johnson and Johnson vaccine and I didn’t leave until Thursday He asked if I could stop in before we headed back to Kentucky. I did. Now his staff was great at doing the injections (5 to be exact). It is Friday and my arms are still sore. Now I know why babies cry and are cranky after vaccinations. Hopefully I can sleep tonight.

This is another superstar on the transplant team. Dr. Patel was responsible for looking at my genetic samples from my bone marrow. Once they found that I had a mutation that puts me at risk for cardiovascular problems she suggested a Cardio work up. I am actually excited to get this completed. So I will return in June for this work up and to get my second set of vaccinations. Oh fun.
